Dark Benediction
Charcoal on paper
18”x24”

—
Dark Benediction tells the unsettling story of a figure that outwardly wears the image of salvation while concealing something far more sinister beneath that veneer. Emerging from thick charcoal shadows, the Christ-like form bears a crown of thorns reduced to a frantic, tangled scribble—a once-holy emblem of sacrifice now warped into a sign of confusion and oppressive control. At the center of its chest, where a sacred heart might be expected, an abstract demonic face begins to take shape, unsettling in its suggestion of deceit.
The work reflects the disturbing way goodness can be imitated and weaponized. It speaks to those who seek meaning while lost or hurting, only to discover their trust has been manipulated by people offering certainty, belonging, and redemption in exchange for unquestioning obedience. In this spreading darkness, compassion is recast as a tool of control, greed is cloaked and praised as virtue, and neighbors are taught to fear and turn against one another.
